The Australian Golf Club is one of Australia's
most exclusive golf clubs. It is a perfectly manicured and aesthetically pleasing golf course featuring a
series of water hazards which provide golfers of all standards with challenges right up until the final
approach shot into the 18th hole.
The current layout, featuring moderated undulations and water hazards was redesigned by Jack
Nicklaus in 1977, following an approach to the club by Kerry Packer, who generously agreed to meet
the costs of the work.
The course has hosted a staggering 15 Australian Open championships which include the first ever
Open in 1904 through to the centenary open in 2004 where a strong local field saw Peter Lonard grab
the title with a one shot victory over previous winner Stuart Appleby.
